Some Star Trek fans have voiced their concern at the love interest element of Alice Eve in Star Trek Into Darkness, saying that they are worried that it will take away from the action of the film. Alice Eve plays Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness, who is the love interest of Chris Pine's Captain Kirk.

Star Trek director J.J. Abrams has now attempted to ease any concerns about the love story of the film, saying that it is very much an action film but Alice's role is important to the story. Abrams told MTV, "(Kirk) meets her fairly early on and again she plays a science officer, she’s someone who is a part of the adventure."
He added, "I think Chris is right, because it’s very much an action adventure movie and once that gets going it’s a very difficult thing to park the story. So it’s very difficult to do a romantic interlude. Her role is important, she wouldn’t be in the movie otherwise."

As well as starring Alice Eve and Chris Pine, Star Trek Into Darkness also stars Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch and Simon Pegg. Star Trek Into Darkness is directed by J.J. Abrams and is due to hit the big screen on May 17 in both the US and the UK.
