It has been reported that the rights to the latest film to star comedian Jack Black, Bernie, have been purchased by Millennium Entertainment. The deal is thought to be worth around $2 million and the film is expected to be released later this year.
Bernie is inspired by a true story. It centres around a funeral director in a small town in Texas, who strikes up a friendship with a wealthy widow. However, once he kills her, he goes to great lengths to convince people that she is still alive.
Jack Black plays the title character in the movie, which is directed by Richard Linklater. Linklater and Black have previously worked together on School of Rock. Bernie will also star Shirley MacLaine as the widow and Matthew McConaughey, who has also worked with Linklater on Dazed and Confused.
