Back before the latest Green Lantern movie was even written, there was a project in the works to make a comedy version of the movie. Warner Bros. were even on the verge of green lighting the idea before somebody saw sense and the project was killed off.
Robert Smigel, the writer for such high profile shows as Late Night With Conan O’Brien and Saturday Night Live, pitched the idea to Warner Bros. back in 2004. He even wrote a script, where the ring found its way into the hands of an average reality TV star named Hal Jordan.
Robert penned the script specifically with Jack Black in mind and had Green Lantern chasing girls, roaming around wearing a fanny pack and even calling in Superman to save the day for him. It has been suggested that the script is still in the hands of Warner Bros. but hopefully they will never feel the need to make it.
