It was universally expected that the 2010 remake of the hit 1984 movie The Karate Kid would be a huge let down and that Jaden Smith was only in it due to his dad being a producer on the movie. However, Will Smith claims he had no influence on the casting of Jaden and the young Smith proved he has what it takes as an actor.
The Karate Kid remake stuck to similar lines as the original and turned out to be a rather enjoyable movie. Yet The Karate Kid 2 is unlikely to follow any of the previous sequels from the 1980s trilogy. It will be interesting to see if they can pull off another hit, with a completely original idea.
Jaden Smith will once again be returning as The Karate Kid, along with Jackie Chan as his trainer. The screenplay for The Karate Kid 2 is currently being by Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff, who previously collaborated for Kung Fu Panda. The Karate Kid 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2013.
