Over the course of time in Hollywood, we have seen a whole host of different novels being adapted for the big screen and over the course of the next few years it looks like we are going to see more than ever being made. We have already seen some novels being adapted for the big screen this year and we are going to get plenty more over the course of the coming year or so.
One of the projects that we are most looking forward to seeing hit the big screen, is the adaptation of the James McBride novel The Good Lord Bird, which is finally beginning to really get moving. The Good Lord Bird has now started casting the main roles for the movie and it has now been claimed that Jaden Smith and Liev Schreiber will appear in the lead roles for the film.
For those of you who have not read the book, The Good Lord Bird centres on the journey of Henry 'Onion' Shackleford, who is a cross-dressing young slave. Onion decides to join up with the radical abolitionist John Brown and his crew of motley freedom fighters in Kansas in 1856. The Good Lord Bird is a satirical story that is told from the point of view of Onion, who documents the work of Brown as he tries to bring slavery to an end long before the civil war.
Jaden Smith will sign on to star in the role of Henry 'Onion' Shackleford, while Liev Schreiber will take on the role of John Brown. Meanwhile, author James McBride will be involved in the project as a producer. The Good ord Bird is now looking to bring a director on board before production on the movie can begin.
