Jake Abel plays one of the love interests to Saoirse Ronan in the highly anticipated ‘The Host’, based on the novel written by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer. Jake plays one of the three leads, a character named Ian O’Shea, who falls in love with Saoirse Ronan’s alien character Wanda.
Jake has a new interview with MTV, in which he discusses what it was like reuniting with Saoirse Ronan in an audition after seeing her four years ago when they were co-stars in ‘The Lovely Bones’. He says, “I didn't know too much about 'The Host' until I heard about the audition, so before I went in to read with Saoirse, I ran into Stephenie [Meyer] out in the lobby. As if that wasn't intimidating enough, I hadn't seen Saoirse in four years. The last time we worked together [on 2009's 'The Lovely Bones'], I was 14, and now I had to go in and have a romantic scene with her."
However, he adds that it wasn’t hard to do scenes with Saoirse because she made everything so simple for him. He says, “She makes my job so much easier. And as far as her playing two different people, for me, all Ian is concerned about is Wanda. She's just Wanda. He'd never met her before when she was Melanie. So I haven't really been able to see Saoirse's transitions, which will be exciting to see in the theaters.”
All three stars of this film have been tipped to break out into mainstream Hollywood for a while now, and many are predicting that this will be the movie that makes that happen. Saoirse Ronan has had a fantastic couple of years, first with ‘Atonement’ and then most recently with ‘Hanna’, and this film will likely get her the kind of audience that Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart both have. Max Irons was predicted to break out with the disastrous ‘Red Riding Hood’, but his good looks and charm will likely make that happen with or without this movie. Abel already has a passionate fan base from his work on Supernatural and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but depending on how ‘The Host’ does, it could launch him into the kind of Hollywood sphere that is already occupied by his counterparts Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Andrew Garfield, Robert Pattinson, and Aaron Johnson.
