When people begin to pull out of movie projects that are barely in development, it can often be the case that these projects then struggle to move into production and find themselves stuck in development hell. Fortunately this has not been the case for the movie Southpaw, which saw Eminem exit the project, before Jake Gyllenhaal came on board to replace the rapper in the lead role.
Jake Gyllenhaal and the rest of the Southpaw cast and crew will be preparing to start filming the movie, which is set to begin shooting in Indiana, from mid to late June, before then continuing in Pittsburgh from early July until August. With that said, Southpaw will actually be set in New York.
We are sure some of you are already aware of the Southpaw story, as the movie has been in the works for quite some time now. However, for those of you who do not know much about it, Southpaw centres on a boxing champion who sees his life come crashing down around him following a huge tragedy. The boxer has to fight to regain the respect of his daughter, as well as putting his life back together.
As well as starring Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role, Southpaw also has a fairly strong supporting cast which includes the likes of Rachel McAdams, Lupita Nyong'o and Forest Whitaker, to name just a few. Southpaw will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, based on the screenplay developed by Kurt Sutter. With shooting set to take place this Summer, it is likely that Southpaw will hit the big screen in 2015.
