While we are all for stars standing by their projects and really believing in what they have made, we can't help but think that James Franco has gone over the top with the movie Spring Breakers. Those of you who have seen the film will agree that it is average at best but James seems to think it was some sort of masterpiece, even campaigning for an Oscar nomination for himself.
Anyways, it has now been confirmed that there are plans in place to make Spring Breakers 2 but that James Franco and director Harmony Korine will not be involved in the sequel, something which James is not happy about. Franco took to his official Instagram account to make it known that he was not backing the Spring Breakers sequel and believes it will be a big flop.
His statement read, "This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent. The original was wholly Harmony's creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel. I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship. It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d'être: to make money off someone else's creativity."
James Franco then went on to compare making the Spring Breakers 2 movie without himself or Harmony Korine, to somebody making a Taxi Driver sequel without Robert De Niro or Martin Scorsese, "Can you imagine someone making the sequel to Taxi Driver without Scorcese [sic] and De Niro's consents? Insanity! I'm speaking up for Harmony and his original vision and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity," he added.
Spring Breakers has been considered a success from a financial view, with the movie making $32m worldwide from a budget of just $5m, but we certainly weren't impressed by the film.
