When ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ was first announced, there was a lot of doubt on whether the film would work and whether it would be compelling enough to merit a sequel. However, the doubts were silenced when the film was released, garnering an impressive box office and an even stronger critical response – especially for James Franco’s lead performance.

When the sequel, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ was announced, it was rumored that Franco might be making a cameo in the film.
However, in an interview with MTV News, Franco has revealed that it is not looking likely that he’ll appear in the film. He says, “I was going to be a small part of the next one. There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one.... Now Rupert's not a part of it so I don't know. My guess is I won't be in it. Nobody's talked to me since Rupert left.”

Will this affect the film's box office? After all, a large part of the success of the first film was due to Franco's star power. Although they haven't announced a large part of the cast for 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes', if there isn't another name actor to fill Franco's spot, it could have an effect on the overall reception to the film.
