X-Men: First Class actor James McAvoy has been talking about what characters he would like to portray on the big screen and pointed to the possibility of playing Gandalf in a prequel to The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movie. James revealed his geeky side, to talk about The Silmarillion, which features a younger Gandalf.
During an interview with Total Film, McAvoy revealed, “I’d like to play Gandalf. It’s called The Silmarillion! It’s a collection of poems and songs that chart the ancient history of Middle-earth.”
He added, “My true geek is coming to the fore, but they’re really, really beautiful stories. In part of that is the genesis of Gandalf, or Mithrandir, or Stormcrow, or any of his many, many names. Anyway, maybe that’s the one!”
James McAvoy can next be seen on the big screen, starring alongside Mark Strong, David Morrissey and Andrea Riseborough, in the Eran Creevy movie Welcome to the Punch, which is set to be released in the US on March 15.
