Former Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek is set to reprise his role as Simon in the hit CBS comedy series How I Met Your Mother. James first appeared as Simon way back in 2008 and he is expected to return to the role at some point during this season.

Van Der Beek’s character Simon is the ex boyfriend of Cobie Smulders character Robin and his return to the show is set to shed some more light on the history of Robin. The episode will take a closer look at Robin’s former career as the pop star Robin Sparkles.
As well as the guest appearance from the returning James Van Der Beek, How I Met Your Mother is also gearing up for guest appearances from Beverly Hills 90210 star Jason Priestley and country singer kd lang. The episode is set to air on CBS on February 4.

How I Met Your Mother, which has starred Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders, is expected to end for good after its ninth season, although nothing has yet been officially confirmed on the future of the show.
