At the start of this year’s X Factor it seemed like nobody was going to be able to compete with Janet Devlin. Her unique voice made people stop and stare in wonderment at the amazing sounds her voice could produce. However, is Janet Devlin suited to The X Factor?
It was the first time that we have seen Janet struggle on last night’s show and her voice does not seem suited to more up tempo songs. Her naivety and uniqueness is not the pop star that The X Factor usually goes for and while she is extremely talented, she is not suited to the show.
Janet Devlin has a voice and a style reminiscent of The Cranberries or Regina Spektor and would be much more suited to an alternative crowd. It does not appear that she can compete on a pop level with the likes of Marcus Collins or Misha B who are head and shoulders above everyone else in the competition.
On tonight’s results show, there will be two acts sent home and, while it would devastate the singer, seeing Janet Devlin eliminated from The X Factor could be a blessing in disguise. She will, no doubt, get a recording contract and by not winning the show, will be able to capitalise on her own unique style. The X Factor results show is tonight at 8pm on ITV1.
