Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman have been promoting their new movie Identity Thief and have been addressing a number of comedy related issues. During an interview with Collider, Jason and Melissa revealed how far they would be willing to go in the name of comedy.

Bateman said, “Melissa has shit in a sink for a laugh (in Bridesmaids).”

Before Melissa added, “I was ill! I don’t know. For me, as long as it makes sense for the character, I like to see how far you can push it, on the worst day or with the most extreme circumstance. But, it’s not funny anymore, if it doesn’t make sense. I don’t really like to do anything that’s mean-spirited ‘cause I don’t find it funny. I’d rather be the jackass than make fun of somebody else. It just feels too cheap and easy. Those are really my only limits.”

Bateman then agreed, “Well said. I second that.”

As well as starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, Identity Thief also stars Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet and John Cho. Identity Thief is directed by Seth Gordon, based on the screenplay by Craig Mazin, and is set to be released on February 8 in the US, before then being released in the UK on March 22.
