There are a lot of stars in Hollywood at the moment who are deciding to try to spread their wings a little bit, by having a go at some of the behind the camera jobs such as directing. It is always interesting to see how a big name actor fares while directing their first movie and just what their directing style will be like. Some actors go on to have very successful directing careers while others find that they are better off sticking to the acting.
The latest actor to decide to have a go at directing his own movie, is Arrested Development star Jason Bateman, who will make his directorial debut with the movie Bad Words. While casting the movie, Jason had hoped to attract a good actor to play the lead role in Bad Words but eventually decided to play the role himself. Jason has now opened up about the reasons behind his decision to act in the movie.
Bateman told Collider, "I originally didn’t want to act in it because I wanted to be able to just focus on the directing and I thought it would be a good part to attract a good actor that would be appealing to the financier. Then ultimately, I thought well, I might be making my job easier if I don’t have to direct the lead actor. There’s a kind of a trick tone with this movie because the character I’m playing is so sort of prickly and acerbic and if that guy’s not likeable than you’re kind of lost."
As well as starring Jason Bateman, Bad Words also stars Kathryn Hahn, Amanda Anka, Rohan Chand, Philip Baker Hall, Allison Janney and Ben Falcone. Bad Words will open in the US on limited release on Mach 14, before then opening nationwide on March 28. Check out the Bad Words trailer below.
