When most television viewers and entertainment insiders think of Jason Momoa they think 'Khal Drago' in "Game of Thrones or about the constant rumours concerning whether he will be playing Aquaman in the next Batman movie. However it seems as if he has been able to develop a talent that slipped under the radar of many until recently as a director of films. His directorial debut, "Road to Paloma", a film in which he stars and directs has earned the attention and praise of some movie critics and is causing both entertainment insiders and filmmakers to look at him in a different manner.
The movie revolves around his character, Robert Wolf, a Native American, taking the law into his own hands when his mother is raped and killed. In the movie however he is able to get his cast, which includes actresses Lisa Bonet and Sarah Shahi, to express the different dimensions of their characters and he also shows his growth as a dramatic actor.
The movie enables him to show his ability to show that he is more than just a exceptionally strong and good-looking actor who has the ability to fight on screen. His directorial debut allowed him to show multiple layers of a character's personality and also how he can draw such performances out of his fellow actors when he is working behind the camera.
He is focused on changing how he is looked as an actor. He understands and appreciates that he is a star because of his ability to play intimidating, larger than life characters but he unlike many of his colleagues he also realizes that sometimes one must create the situation to change one's perception among their peers. For him to flex certain 'acting muscles' and skills he wrote, directed and starred in a vehicle that could show filmmakers that he possesses the ability to show multiple dimensions of a character and he was successful in his efforts.
Fans may be obsessed with him potentially playing a role in the next 'Batman' movie but Jason Momoa seems focused on changing his perception within Hollywood and proving to them that he is an actor who has the ability to unpeel the layers of a a character's personality and connect with an audience.
