It was recently announced that Jason Momoa would be playing Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming Marvel film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Now, Marvel is notoriously tight with its money and especially with actors who are relatively unproved in the realm of blockbusters.
Chris Evans was reportedly paid only 300,000 dollars for his leading role in ‘Captain America’, which of course increased once he starred in ‘The Avengers’. Terrence Howard’s exit from the second Iron Movie was reportedly over a money dispute, as Marvel didn’t want to hand over more money, and instead got Don Cheadle to replace him instead. Now, something similar seems to be happening as Latino Review posted that Momoa’s agents are asking for more money for him to star as Drax.
One of the tweets from Latino Review states, “Marvel is back to screen testing actors for Drax. Somebody needs to remind Momoa that nobody saw his last 2 films & take Marvel’s offer.”
While Momoa does have one advantage over Howard in that his looks are very distinctive and Marvel will have a more difficult time to find a replacement for Drax, they will still do it if they think they are being put into a tight corner. James Gunn, the director of ‘Guardians’, has previously said in the past that this is not a cast-contingent film, and that even with a cast filled with unknowns, they would still make it.
