There has been a lot of talk about the life and career of Jennette McCurdy over the course of the year so far, with almost everybody having an opinon on the young and talented star. The biggest talking point was when those Jennette McCurdy lingerie pictures emerged, which led to many people calling Jennette a bad role model to her young fans.
However, Jennette McCurdy has now opened up about her critics, insisting that they all need to reassess what makes a person a role model in the first place. Jennette says that she never wanted to be considered a role model for anybody and says that she will never want to be seen as a role model.
McCurdy stated, "I am not a role model. I don't claim to be, I don't try to be, and I don't want to be. This world is one seemingly most keen on judgment and negativity, despite all the hearts and smiley emoticons. To remove myself from the role model battle, the falsified standard set by the bubblegum industry, is - in my eyes - to remove myself from the counterintuitive battle of attempting to be something perfect while being glaringly aware of my imperfections."
She added, "I am proud of the way I live my life. I am proud of my choices. I am proud that no one can call me fake or say I don't stand up for myself. I am proud that my friends and family would say that I'm a good person. Calling a celebrity a role model is like calling a stranger a role model."
It will be interesting to see where the career of Jennette McCurdy goes now that her Nickelodeon show Sam & Cat has been cancelled.
