Jennifer Carpenter has been promoting the eighth and final season of Dexter, just in time for the season premiere tonight on Showtime. In a new interview, Jennifer touches upon her feelings on the end of the show, and how she wants her character's journey to end.

Although this might be an unpopular opinion, Jennifer reveals that she wants her character, Debra, to die by the end of the show. She explains, "I’ve said it before and I will repeat it: I want the character to die. Every actor has to shed their character, shake the ghost off. It’s a real process. I really do love this character. [But] for my own well being, I need this story to have an ending.”
She also explains that she's finally ready for the show to end, despite having mixed feelings about it before. She says, "I wanted it to be the final season and I want it to be great. I want us to protect the legacy of this show. I think we’re all very proud. I don’t want to not see my friends, but I think it’s been an education and I think we’re all ready to graduate and see what’s next.”

Jennifer Carpenter promoting 'Dexter'
Jennifer reveals that she'd like to try doing a comedy soon, especially because she's never really had a proper chance to explore that side of herself before. Right now, she has two movies set to come out called 'Where The Devil Hides' and 'Bone Tomahawk', neither of which are comedies. No doubt, she'll have plenty of time to flex her comedic chops once 'Dexter' finishes airing.
