Following the huge success of the original X-Men trilogy it was no real surprise when it was announced that they had decided to do a Wolverine standalone film, after all he was the main character from the trilogy and most fans favourite. Many of us expected that there would be a number of other characters getting standalone films but that has yet to actually happen.
Now that the X-Men franchise has gone back to the origins with X-Men: First Class and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, talk has once again turned to the possibility of there being some new standalone films for the characters. One such star who could be in line to gain her own standalone film is Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, who plays the role of Mystique in the new X-Men films.
X-Men: Days of Future Past producer Lauren Shuler Donner has admitted that she would love to see Jennifer Lawrence in a Mystique standalone film, "I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo," she explained.
While we wait for news of a possible Mystique standalone movie, we will next see Jennifer Lawrence on the big screen playing the character in the upcoming movie X-Men: Days of Future, which will open on May 22 in the UK, before then opening in the US on May 23.
