The Spice Girls are possibly the biggest girl group in the world ever and their rise to superstardom started a whole new trend of girlbands and the beginning of Girl Power. However, there was one person who thought that the Spice Girls were destined to be a failure, before they had even begun.

Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French
British funny woman Jennifer Saunders has revealed how she met the Spice Girls when they were just starting out and she was less than impressed. Jennifer claims that the girls were over excited and over confident and she thought that they would flop.
Talking to UK chat show host Graham Norton, Saunders explained, “I actually met them before they were famous. I was in a restaurant with Dawn and in came these five over excited little girls with braided hair - they came bounding over to us saying, 'Oh my God, French and Saunders,' and told us they were going to be the next big girl group. I thought 'Please, of course you are!' and then suddenly they were on Tv and I thought, 'Doh!’”

Spice Girls at Viva Forever
The Spice Girls went on to sell over 80 million records worldwide and their debut single Wannabe is the most successful single to be released by an all girl group, ever. They were also the first British band since the Beatles to have two albums in the US Top Ten at the same time.
