Most critics agree that Melissa McCarthy is an outstanding comedic actress and usually the best part of her movies, but Rex Reed apparently does not. A movie critic that is often criticized for his views, Reed wrote a long review of Melissa’s new movie ‘Identity Thief’ in which he called her, “cacophonous, tractor-sized, female hippo, a gimmick comedian who has devoted her shortcareer to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.”

Now, Melissa’s cousin Jenny McCarthy is jumping to her defense, telling E!, “[Melissa is] very talented and people know that. He [Rex Reed] can go to hell.” She also added that Reed’s insults were ridiculous, saying, “That’s obnoxious in itself. For anyone.”
She’s not the only one with that opinion as we saw hundreds of moviegoers lashing out against the critic for his harsh and unnecessary comments. In addition, it seems as if it's a gender bias because you don’t see these comments involved with overweight male comedians such as Kevin James, Jonah Hill, and [formerly] Seth Rogen.

Reed hasn’t apologized for the incident, instead saying he sticks by his words and that obesity shouldn’t be used as a comedic tool in movies. It seems as if he’s trying to defend his stance, but at this point, there’s no one moviegoer that is continuing to listen to him.
