We have seen a whole host of Hollywood stars losing weight for movie roles over the years, just look at Matthew McConaughey and the 50 pounds that he lost for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. Each star has a different way of losing the weight, choosing to go for the diet that they feel works best for them along the way.
One actor who has had to lose a substantial amount of weight for a role, is War Horse actor Jeremy Irvine, who had to lose around 28 pounds for his role in the movie The Railway Men. Jeremy plays a starving and malnourished prisoner of war in The Railway Men and, while talking about the movie he has revealed his diet to help him lose the weight.
Irvine told InStyle, "It's called the no-more-than-one-can-of-tuna-a-day diet. I lost almost 28 pounds. You're so hungry the whole time you lose your mind a bit. I had no energy and kept having really mad dreams, which alarmed my parents slightly. We had a dietitian on set to keep an eye on me. For someone of my generation, it's impossible to relate to what prisoners of war went through. I owed it to Eric to make it look as realistic as possible."
As well as starring Jeremy Irvine, The Railway Men also stars Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, Hiroyuki Sanada and Stellan Skarsgard. The Railway Men is directed by Jonathan Teplitsky and will hit the big screen on January 10 in the UK. The US has yet been given an official release date but will we bring you that as soon as we know it.
