The 2014 Oscar nominations were announced earlier this week and, following the Golden Globes earlier in the month, there were no real big surprises to speak of. While there were no major surprises, one slight shock for us was the fact that Jeremy Renner was snubbed for his performance in the movie American Hustle.
It is fair to say that American Hustle was one of the more successful films at the Academy Award nominations, receiving 10 nominations for this years awards. While Jeremy Renner missed out on being nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, his co-star Bradley Cooper was nominated in this category, which was rather surprising to us.
Fair enough, Bradley Cooper did put in a very competent performance in American Hustle but, for us, Jeremy Renner was far and away the best supporting actor in the film and, in our opinion, the best supporting actor of any film. The Best Supporting Actor category is very competitive but Jeremy Renner not only deserved to get nominated but he also deserved to win the award.
While Jeremy Renner was snubbed in the Best Supporting actor category, those who were more successful include Bradley Cooper for American Hustle, Barkhad Abdi for Captain Phillips, Michael Fassbender for 12 Years a Slave, Jonah Hill for The Wolf of Wall Street and Jared Leto and Dallas Buyers Club.
Who do you think will win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar?
