It has been confirmed that Now You See Me actor Jesse Eisenberg has been cast in the role of Lex Luthor for the planned comic book movie Batman vs. Superman. Jesse follows in the footsteps of some great actors that have played the role in the past, including Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey but director Zack Snyder feels they have the perfect actor for the job.
Snyder explained, "He's a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth, and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions." So how will Jesse compare?
Well, it is probably fair to say that Gene Hackman is the most recognisable Lex Luthor, playing the chracter in Superman, Superman 2 and Superman 4. It is also probably fair to say he has also been the best Lex Luthor actor to date.
As for Kevin Spacey, he was a little unlucky in the sense that the movie he played the role in flopped. Kevin played Lex Luthor in Superman Returns and put in a very solid performance to be fair to him but unfortunately it was his only turn in the role.
We look forward to seeing what Jesse Eisenberg can bring to the role and it will be interesting to see if he can pull it off.
Batman vs. Superman will open on May 6, 2016.
