Jessica Biel has now lost two roles to Anne Hathaway this year – the role of Catwomn/Selina Kyle in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and then the role of Fantine in ‘Les Miserables’. Both roles were highly contested among A-list actresses in Hollywood, and are major roles in films that are two of the biggest released in Hollywood this year. The Dark Knight Rises broke records as the finale of the blockbuster trilogy, and Les Miserables is being predicted to become one of the biggest musical hits in the history of cinema.
Hathaway’s always been a commercial and critical darling, but these two films are raising her profile in a way that no movie since ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ has managed to do. And Biel, who desperately needed a break this year after her critical and commercial bombs ‘Playing for Keeps’ and ‘Total Recall’, would have finally broken into her A-list status with these roles. Unfortunately it was not to be – and apparently left Biel fuming when Hathaway was chosen over her both times.
According to ICYDK, an insider close to Biel said, “Jessica was fuming when she heard she didn’t get the role of Catwoman. She really thought she was going to get it, but when Christopher Nolan handed the role to Hathaway, she was devastated.”
Another blow to Biel was the fact that she was passed up on the lead role for ‘The Wolverine’, which another insider said, “She didn’t get the part, but she came pretty close.” Hollywood sources have been saying that of recently, Biel’s only claim to fame may be her marriage to Justin Timberlake since producers are starting to realize that she doesn’t have the acting ability to sustain her career. The source says, “She may be a gorgeous girl, but her acting ability just isn’t where it needs to be. She hasn’t proven that she’s a real actor. Being married to Justin Timberlake is her calling card at the moment. There is nothing extraordinary about her, like Carey Mulligan or even Amy Adams, so she’s not on the studios’ radar unless they’re love-interest roles.”
