By now, it seems as if there have been five different reports coming out every other week, each listing different ‘frontrunners’ for the lead role in Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. Of course, there has been no confirmation of what character it will be, but it’s rumored to be Sharon Carter, the niece of Peggy Carter, who was played by Hayley Atwell in the first Captain America film.

Now ComicBookMovie is reporting that although the film is still in casting stages in the public and media’s eye, the studio and production team has already started shortlisting actresses. The shortlist was said to hold Emilia Clarke [Game of Thrones], Jessica Brown Findlay [Downtown Abbey], Teresa Palmer [I Am Number Four], Imogen Poots [Fright Night], and Alison Brie [Community].
Despite this shortlist, reliable sources had made it seem as though Mary Elizabeth Winstead [of Scott Pilgrim and Die Hard fame] has pretty much received the role, on the basis of the directors preference [here], but it seems as if though those sources may have spoken out of hand. Days after the rumor surfaced online, Winstead took to her twitter to debunk the rumor. Now, it seems as if though the role has been narrowed down to someone on the shortlist, and the lucky recipient will be Jessica Brown Findlay.
