There is a distinct lack of strong female characters in Hollywood these days, not to mention the fact that they are very limited when it comes to female superheroes. While we will be getting a few new female superheroes on the big screen in the coming years, the only one we can really think of at the moment is Black Widow in the Marvel movies.
Scarlett Johansson has played the role of Black Widow in a number of Marvel films, which has led to talk of there being a potential Black Widow standalone movie, which has been going on for some time now. It looks like Marvel are seriously considering moving ahead with the project and now, Hollywood actress Jessica Chastain has urged them to get a move on.
Chastain stated, "Where is the Scarlett Johansson superhero movie? I don't understand it, why is it taking so long for this? This woman clearly shows that people want to go see her in the movies... She shows that she kicks a**, she's a great actress."
She added, "Under the Skin is an incredible film, and why are we still waiting for a go-ahead on a superhero movie starring Scarlett Johansson? To me, it's a no-brainer. You want to make money, put Scarlett Johansson in a superhero movie!"
With that said, we could still have some wait before we do finally get to see Scarlett Johansson starring in a Black Widow solo movie but, we still get to see her in a couple more Marvel films in the coming years. Scarlett will next be seen as Black Widow in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which opens on April 24, 2015 in the UK and May 1, 2015 in the US.
