Jessica Marais is going to be seen in June 2014 in the starring role of "Carlotta", a television series about Australia's famous transgender performer, a role that entertainment insiders and herself acknowledge will be one of the most challenging of her career.
However, with her recent disclosure that she has a bipolar disorder that was identified since she was a young child of 12 years of age there is a belief with some within the entertainment industry that the role of Carlotta while demanding is not something she cannot handle and in fact very likely inspired her to open up about her illness to eliminate any stigmas attached to it.
The role of Carlotta follows the life of the legendary Australian performer who began his life as Richard and after escaping his abusive father became a famous showgirl who eventually reinvented himself as Carlotta. The movie will be highly scrutinized as Carlotta is a pioneer for transgenders but if there is one actress with the dramatic acting range and emotional grit to perform this role it is Jessica Marais.
Pictures of her in character as Carlotta show the actress looking fabulous as she wears a sixties style brunette bob wig in one scene and in another she is pictured wearing a long blonde wig in the television movie which addresses the stigmas placed on transgender people.
Jessica Marais in an interview with Australian Weekly revealed that she suffers bipolar episodes which she manages with cognitive therapy and her very patient partner James Stewart. She admitted to deciding to open up about her condition to help break down and eliminate the stigma that is associated with mental illness.
Jessica Marais is not only a talented and beautiful actress but she is also a courageous individual as illustrated by her willingness to take on the role of Carlotta and also open up about her personal life.
