Singer and judge on the UK version of the hit show The Voice, Jessie J, has revealed that she is happy to make contestants on the show cry. Jessie J claims that she is simply trying to get them to improve and sometimes tough love is the best way.

Jessie J explained to Daily Record, “Contestants have to realise they need to raise their game. I’m not saying it’s easy – I know how it feels to step out on a stage in front of millions of people I don’t know. When I performed on the X Factor last year, I was shaking like a leaf. But it’s got to be done and they need to embrace it.”
She added, “I may make them cry but they always come back the next day and say, ‘Thank you for the tough love – it’s what I needed.’ You’ve got to say to yourself, ‘Look at me. I’m living my dream. I wake up every day and do what I love.’ You’ll never hear me complaining and I never expect to hear my acts complaining either…”

However, Jessie J did admit that she would not be where she is today, if she had auditioned for a reality TV show. She continued, “I feel if I’d auditioned for one of these shows, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today. You have to go through life’s experiences – good or bad – to learn from them.”
The Voice continues on BBC One tonight at 19:00 BST.
