While touting her latest album, “Sail Out,” a seven-track EP, Jhene Aiko vowed it would be the last one she makes with so many rappers on it. Of the seven tracks on the EP album, seven are devoted to rappers like, Kendrick Lamar and Ab-Soul, and Vince Staples and Childish Gambino.
The 25-year-old Los Angeles native has been heavily coveted as of late by some of the biggest names in the rap-music world for her silky voice. Rap stars like Drake, J. Cole, and Big Sean are just a few of the big names Jhene has collaborated with recently. But she says she “wants to show people she do other things than just sing with rappers.”
And that shouldn’t be too difficult seeing that Jhene has already enjoyed some success in the music industry. Although moderate, that success was facilitated by the fact that she grew up surrounded by moguls from the industry. Jhene was even contracted by Sony and Universal at one point, appearing in a number of music videos. The highpoint of her career was seeing her name emblazoned alongside giants of the industry like P. Diddy and Ghostface Killah.
Young and confused, Jhene left the industry for a while but has since rediscovered who she was and re-emerged as a top R&B singer in her own right.
