Star Trek director JJ Abrams has admitted that he would find it hard to direct Star Wars: Episode 7, as he is a big fan of the movie franchise. JJ claims that, whoever does end up getting the job will have a very difficult challenge on their hands.

JJ Abrams directing Star Trek
Abrams told Hollywood Life, “Star Wars is one of my favourite movies of all time. I frankly feel that - I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series.”
He added, “I was never a big Star Trek fan growing up, so for me, working on Star Trek didn't have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more than anyone to the next iterations of Star Wars, but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!”

Iconic Star Wars helmets
JJ Abrams is not the first person to rule themselves out of directing Star Wars: Episode 7. Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and Indiana Jones director Steven Spielberg have both also ruled themselves out of the running. The favourite to direct Star Wars: Episode 7 continues to look like X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn.
Star Wars: Episode 7 is currently being written by Michael Arndt and is expected to be released in 2015.
