It was reported this week that veteran television star Joan Rivers stopped breathing while having throat surgery. Joan was in a surgery in New York City, where she was undergoing throat surgery, which is believed to have been specifically on her vocal chords. Whilst the surgery was taking place, Joan stopped breathing and was rushed to the Mount Sinai hospital in New York, where she has been stabilised but is still serious. Melissa Rivers, the daughter of Joan Rivers, rushed to the hospital to be by her side.
Joan Rivers has enjoyed a long and successful career in television and will always be remembered for some of her more daring jokes while doing stand up. As well as enjoying a successful comedy career, Joan is also known for being an actress, writer, producer and television host and is probably best known for hosting the E! celebrity fashion show Fashion Police.
Her daughter Melissa Rivers has thanked people for their thoughts and prayers, saying, "My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."
At the age of 81 this is a very serious situation for Joan Rivers, who regularly makes jokes about dying during her gigs. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joan Rivers and her family and we hope that she manages to come through this and have a full recovery. We will keep you posted on her condition.
