John Coltrane was a famous 20th century musician who influenced many artists of his time. Many people might not be familiar with Coltrane because he was popular during the 1930s and 1940s. He made songs with famous musicians such as Miles Davis and Dizzie Gillespie. Coltrane learned how to play the saxophone when he enlisted in the Navy. This training created the foundation that he needed in order to become a master jazz player.
John Coltrane was a pioneer

Military bands are an integral part of the Armed Forces and they serve the purpose of boosting troop morale. Military bands are also used for military celebrations and events. The training that a soldier receives with a military band can definitely be used to aid them in a career as a musician. Though most modern musicians do not join the military to further their musical careers, in Coltrane’s case this paid off.

Coltrane used his military band training to launch his career as a composer and writer. After he left the service he went on train under great musicians of his day. Eventually he was able to play with some top name performers and then forever changed the world of Jazz music.
