Beatles biographer Hunter Davies is working on donating letters and lyrics from John Lennon to the British library. The donation would be for a new tax relief scheme.
John Lennon's letters and lyrics are being donated to the British library

The first donation will include 'handwritten lyrics' to 'Strawberry Fields Forever', and that's only one small part of the larger collection. Davies spoke about his choice to donate the collection, explaining to the BBC News [via RTT News], "I want my Beatles collection to be kept together, in one place, and on public display, and the British Library is the perfect home for it. I'm really pleased the cultural gifts scheme has helped me make this a reality."

The tax scheme that his donation would fall under is the cultural gifts scheme, and would help Davis reduce his tax by a significant amount as well.

The Beatles best known line-up is made up of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Harrison and Lennon are dead, but McCartney and Starr are still alive and passed their seventies. The Beatles brand also remains incredibly strong, and anything associated with it is always in high demand. If Davies hadn't donated these letters and lyrics, there's no doubt that they would have sold at a very high price at an auction.
