It has been a rather sad few hours since it was announced that Jon Stewart will be leaving The Daily Show and now that we have had to for it to properly sink in, speculation has now turned to who will replace him, after 17 years on the show. Jon gave a long speech about his decision to quit the show and, while we are upset about it, we do have to respect his decision.
During his speech, Stewart said, "Seventeen years is the longest I have ever in my life held a job by sixteen years and five months. The upshot there being I am a terrible employee. In my heart I know it is time for someone else to have that opportunity. I don't have any specific plans. I have a lot of ideas. I have a lot of things in my head. We're going to have dinner on a school night with my family who I have heard from multiple sources are lovely people."
Now that we know that Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show, the hunt will now be on for a replacement for the legend and there has already been a lot of speculation as to who will be taking over as the new host of The Daily Show. Many people had previously linked Steven Colbert and Larry Wilmore to the job but, since both of them have since taken on new jobs, it looks like they are both out of the running.
With that said, there are still plenty of other stars who are being linked to the possibility of replacing Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, with names such as John Oliver, Amy Schumer, and Chris Rock being highly linked, while Ricky Gervais and Jessica Williams have also been mentioned. We are going to miss Jon Stewart a lot but we look forward to seeing who gets brought in as his replacement.
