Since it was announced that Marvel would be adapting Guardians of the Galaxy for the big screen, almost every actor who has ever worked has been linked to the movie. One such actor is The Dark Knight Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was linked to the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord.

However, it appears that Joseph is now out of the running for that role, as he has agreed to join the cast of the Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller movie Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. It is also believed that Josh Brolin is in line to join the cast too, as they bid to bulk up the tough guy cast.
According to Deadline, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play a character called Johnny, a role which was previously offered to Johnny Depp, which he declined. While this is fantastic news for fans of Sin City and of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it is also disappointing for those hoping to see him in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Now, Marvel Studios will have to take a longer look at a number of their other candidates for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, but with the amount of names being linked to the movie they should have no problems casting a big name in the role.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be released in August 2014, while Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is will be released on October 4, 2013.
