Joseph Gordon-Levitt appears on the big screen alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in the movie Lincoln, where they play father and son. Joseph has revealed how Daniel welcomed him to the movie by sending him a letter, written as if he was actually Abraham Lincoln.

Gordon-Levitt explained, “He gave me a letter, a handwritten letter written in old-fashioned fountain pen on old-fashioned stationery. And from what I understand, he actually studied Abraham Lincoln's penmanship and he wrote it sort of as himself, sort of as Lincoln and he signed it A/D, so Abraham and Daniel.”
He added, “It was amazing. He was just welcoming me to the job and I think he wanted to extend a warm welcome because then when I met him personally... it was, 'Hello Robert', and not very warm because their (Lincoln and his son's) relationship is not very warm, and I said, 'Hello, sir'.”

As well as Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln also stars Sally Field, James Spader and Tommy Lee Jones. Lincoln is directed by Steven Spielberg and was released in the US on November 16 before being released in the UK on January 25, 2013.
