The Big Bang Theory has now completed 6 seasons, and its 6th season finale definitely went out with a bang. Kunal Nayyar and Kaley Cuoco [who play Raj and Penny] spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the finale, and its watershed moment for Raj.
Raj [spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the episode] finally overcame his selective mutism to open up about his broken heart to Penny without the help of alcohol. About that scene and Raj's character arc, Kunal told THR, "It's really wonderful because after playing this character for six years, you see him slowly let his guard down. In sitcoms, you can sometimes get stuck in two-dimensional characters or one trick ponies. This has been really wonderful because this season, we get to see Raj really let go of his armor and evolve as a human being and be vulnerable -- which is rare for him."
Cuoco also gives her thoughts on the scene, adding, "In the first season, when Raj actually starts talking when Penny is giving him alcohol, Penny says, 'You're talking to me,' and I say the same thing now but it's completely flipped. It's interesting how things have changed and it's incredible to think what this show has done over these past few years; it's amazing."
The Big Bang Theory is coming back for a seventh season, and with its phenomenal ratings and commercial success, it will likely be on the air for many years to come.
