Actress Kareena Kapoor found herself in hot water recently when she fell victim to an April Fool's prank and claimed to not know of Tamil acting star 'Surya' and had no intention of acting in any non-Hindi films. The comments of the beautiful but outspoken and often controversial actress created a firestorm of controversy that required all of her public relations savvy and experience to quell and for a short period put her reputation and standing within the Indian film community at risk.
One of the things that makes her such an appealing actress and brand ambassador is her quick wit and willingness to speak 'without a filter' but sometimes the temper that accompanies greatness can create problems especially in our current society where every statement by a star actress can become 'viral' within seconds.
After letting the controversy simmer for a week the film veteran released a statement explaining that she is well aware of whom the talented Kollywood star is but she had never met him. Thus when the claim that she would be singing an 'item' song in the Surya film Anjaan was stated to her she was surprised and defended herself as not having been aware or agreed to such a role.
This was a situation in which a poorly designed April Fool's joke of which she was obviously unaware caused controversy for the stylish actress but to her credit she maximized it for its public relations effect. The Bollywood star allowed the controversy to heat up and then burst the bubble of those who tried to embarrass her by disclosing that she would be quite interested in acting with Surya in a role and explained that she was currently filming the sequel to "Singham", the film in which he was lead in Tamil cinema.
Kareena Kapoor is Bollywood royalty and thus she understands how to resolve controversy and turn it into a mutual benefit for both parties.
