The smash hit movie Titanic is still one of the most beloved movies around and is still the second highest grossing movie of all time, following Avatar. When Titanic was released way back in 1997, British actress Kate Winslet was relatively unknown and only 21 years old but her whole world was about to change.
Kate Winslet became a global superstar overnight, thrust into the limelight and having to deal with the instant fame that came with the huge success of Titanic. Over 16 years since Titanic hit the big screen and Kate can still remember having to deal with becoming a famous actress, although she says that her life did not really change in a big way.
Winslet explained, "I was 21. To be suddenly famous is one thing, but to be suddenly famous, to be followed, to have your home staked out — and with no bodyguards, no security — that was quite different. And yet, in a way, my life did not change. I had a little flat in North London before the film and after the film I went right back to it. Just because the film did what it did didn't mean I was suddenly going to live in a six-million-pound house in LA."
Since making her breakthrough with Titanic in 1997, Kate Winslet has gone on to have a hugely successful career, winning an Oscar along the way, for her role in the 2008 movie The Reader. Kate Winslet can next be seen on the big screen in the movie Labor Day, which opens on January 31 in the US and March 28 in the UK.
