When it was first rumored that Katy Perry and John Mayer had begun dating, a lot of people assumed it was a PR relationship. Of course, that theory didn't pan out when they realized that neither Perry nor Mayer had anything big to promote. Then, they made their first appearance together as a couple at Soho House in West Hollywood on June 19th. Tabloids went overboard and started reporting that they had begun dating, and were getting serious fast.
Only now, US weekly (along with other legitimate sources) is claiming that Mayer and Perry have broken it off, after only a couple of months of dating. The most recent outing they were seen on was at a Beverly Hills pool party on August 4th, where they were apparently all over each other.
“She’s really upset about it,” one insider tells Us.
Echoes another insider: “She is making it seem like it wasn’t serious with John, but she is hurt.”
Obviously, John Mayer and Katy Perry are two of the biggest stars in the music industry and it was considered a match made in music heaven, despite both of their track records with previous relationships. Perry is recently divorced from Russel Brand, and Mayer's exes in the past couple of years have included Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, and Jennifer Aniston. Neither is known for steady relationships, and Mayer in particular is considered a womanizer, so this break-up doesn’t really come as a huge surprise.
