Keanu Reeves woke up the entertainment world with the news that he will be starring and producing an hour long television series. The name of the series will be 'Rain' and it will revolve around the life of John Reeves, a half-Japanese, half-American contract assassin whose speciality is taking out his targets by making it look like death by natural causes.
'Rain' will be based on the best selling book series by Barry Eisler and is the first major television acting and directing for the talented Canadian.
This is major news in the entertainment industry because there really was no 'lead-up' or hints of this being part of the plan for Keanu Reeves. For many of his fans the actor is still known as Neo from "The 'Matrix" and Officer John Traven who starred alongside Sandra Bullock in "Speed".
Some fans and entertainment observers are also taking notice of the fact that he is an executive producer in this project and has some thinking that this might invigorate his career.
He is still a star in Hollywood but there was a time when the mere mention of his name would have people wanting to line up at the box office in anticipation of his films. In addition, over the past several years he has not been prominent in the media news even though he has been working at a steady clip.
What he needs in the opinion of some of his social media fans and entertainment observers is a project that will keep him in the public eye and keep him busy and "Rain" does that as it will have him doing 'double-duty' as the star and producer.
Keanu Reeves is venturing into television with "Rain" a new forum but in a role as an assassin that he is very knowledgeable and comfortable with and as such will likely help him make this show a success from the moment it hits the airwaves.
