While pretty much everyone in the entire world knows the name Barack Obama these days, there was once a time when he was not even that well known in the US, so much so that some people actually found it difficult to pronounce his name. One such person, who had a very public issue with pronouncing his name, is the brilliantly talented music star Kelly Clarkson.
Kelly Clarkson has recalled the moment when she had to present Barack Obama with his Grammy for the Best Spoken World Album for Dreams from My Father, with the singer actually pronouncing his name perfectly to start with. However, much to her embarrassment, when it came to the big moment of announcing his win on stage, Kelly messed it up completely.
Clarkson was chatting to US talk show host Seth Meyers, when she explained, "I get up there, complete panic sets in because I can’t remember what that fake Grammy is called, I can’t remember what the book is because it had just come out... And I can’t remember his name, but I am pretty sure it rhymes with ‘sama'."
She added, "I completely butchered it, I literally had the mic, after I just nailed it, and I’m like... (mumbles nonsensical words). I swear to God, I wanted to die. I wanted to fall down and pretend I had a stroke – I would’ve faked some horrible thing."
Fortunately though, Barack Obama did not hold it against her and Kelly Clarkson later went on to perform at his second inauguration in 2013.
