Josh Groban is about to co-host 'Rising Star', which is ABC's new summer talent competition. He's previously done guest stints on 'Live With Kelly', and in a recent interview, he revealed that working with Kelly Ripa allowed him to prepare for his first official co-hosting gig.
In an interview with Hitfix, Josh explains, "When you have someone as brilliant as Kelly to riff off and have dialogue with, she makes it look easy. When you can make it look easy and put the audience at ease, that’s when it’s the best. That’s what I learned from that experience.”
Josh has always balanced a variety of hosting gigs with his acting and musical career, but Rising Star will take up a lot of his time. However, don't expect Rising Star to follow in the footsteps of American Idol or The Voice. In the same interview, Josh explained that he's very different from Ryan Seacrest and Carson Daly, and he plans to set his own path on this show.
Other experts on Rising Star include Kesha, Ludacris, and Brad Paisley. The show debuts on June 22nd, and the format of the show is different to most of the reality competition shows already on air. It will feature experts and mentors, just like the other shows, but the judgement won't really granted by a panel of judges. Instead, a wall of people sit in front of the performers, and if enough of the wall rises after the performance, the performer goes to the next round. And then, the audience gets to decide if the performer gets eliminated at the end of the night, or not - same as usual.
