Following the huge success of the hit movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it was no surprise when it was announced that a the sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was going to get made. Director Rupert Wyatt signed up to return for the sequel but later withdrew from the project and was replaced by Matt Reeves, which some people were a little concerned about.
People were worried that Matt Reeves what not be able to bring that same kind of feeling to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, that Rupert Wyatt managed to do Rise of the Planet of the Apes. However, it seems like those concerns were unfounded and, according to actress Keri Russell who stars in the movie, Matt Reeves has done a fantastic job on the film.
Russell told Collider, "The great thing about that, even though it’s just such a different beast, and is this huge, epic thing, is that I get Matt Reeves, who I obviously love so much, from years ago (on Felicity). He has such a creative voice and a present sensitivity. I think that’s the only reason I was in a movie like that. I don’t get to be in big blockbuster summer movies. Surely, my boobs aren’t big enough for that."
As well as starring Keri Russell, the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes cast also includes Gary Oldman, Judy Greer, Angela Kerecz, Jason Clarke, Andy Serkis and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will open on July 11 in the US, before then hitting the big screen in the UK on July 17. Check out the Dawn of the Plane of the Apes trailer below.
