South Korean figure skater Kim Yu-Na officially retired from figure skating as she performed her last routine at her annual All Skate 2014 ice show and she leaves the ice as one of the greatest figure skaters of all time. The question now for many in the entertainment industry is what will be her next move? She is not in need of money as she has been one of the highest paid athletes since 2009 and her earnings are alleged to be above $10 million per year.
Kim Yu-Na has not only been an ice skater but is also an endorsement queen and has even dipped her toes into the world of singing as she has collaborated with some of the top singers in South Korea. She has sung with Lee Seung-gi the song "Smile Boy" for the 2010 World Cup and also sang with the group Big Bang on the song "Shouts of Reds" for the Korean Women's World Cup football team. As such, singing is an option.
She is not going to stop being an endorser as she is still one of the most recognizable names in South Korea and is considered endorsement gold.
However, some entertainment insiders and people within her circles of the sporting world are hinting that she might take a look at acting. There are few people who have her public profile and she her fans will watch any project that she is involved in and will be the biggest supporters. In addition, the world of acting, particularly movies, would represent a new challenge similar to a new jump in figure skating and if there one thing about Kim Yu-Na that will not disappear it is the fact that she is super competitive.
Kim Yu-Na has retired from skating and thus acting on the ice but fans should not be surprised if she moves from the ice to the movie screens as an actress. She has the looks, the appeal and the experience of acting with big crowds watching and thus in the view of many, is a natural fit.
