It has been reported that Hollywood actress Kristen Stewart is set to go head to head with singers Katy Perry and Lady Gaga for a role in the Freddie Mercury biopic. The three women are all said to be vying for the role of Mary Austin, who was Freddie’s best friend.
A supposed source explained to the US publication Star, “Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart are on the short list for (Mary Austin), who played a huge role in Freddie's life. They all desperately want the part, and it's getting ugly! With the girls fighting like this, it's just hurting their chances of getting the part.”
However, these reports have since been dismissed by insiders on the project, who have claimed that these rumours were made up, in a bid to cause some unnecessary controversy. It has been said that no talks have taken place with Lady Gaga, while Kristen Stewart and Katy Perry have had no discussions about being involved.
While none of these women seem to be involved in the project, it is believed that Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing the Queen frontman. It is expected that the film will begin shooting next year, with an expected release date sometime in 2014.
