It seemed as if the publicists from Summit Entertainment, the studio between the Twilight saga, had managed to keep the press on their toes. Until yesterday, not a single journalist, either here in the US or abroad, had the guts to go ahead and ask Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson what we were all thinking – whether they had gotten back together or they were still broken up.
Yesterday, Savannah Guthrie on the Today Show finally broke the streak. She asked Kristen towards the end of the interview, “Kristen, you have so many fans and they will be mad at us if we don’t ask you… Are you back together with Robert Pattinson?”
Stewart’s response was her typical eye roll, and looking pretty upset, she said, “Funny you mention that. I’m going to just let people watch whatever little movie they think our lives are. Keep ‘em guessing, I always say.”
The clip from the show can be viewed here. Did Stewart have a right to be upset? After all, they were asking her about her personal life, which she is notoriously tight-lipped about. However, there’s a common trend of thinking on various gossip sites (including Lainey Gossip and Celebitchy) that she opened herself up to that question when she made her apology to Robert Pattinson publicly on People. If she had just kept quiet when the scandal first leaked, that would have told people that her private life was private, no matter who she was doing or why she was doing it.
By bringing the press into in and making the whole thing so public, she took away the boundaries of what the press are allowed to ask her.
