Kristen Wiig has just been confirmed as part of the Arrested Development cast, and she will be playing the younger version of Lucille Bluth. Arrested Development usually has a trend of getting very high-profile guest stars, and this definitely fits into the trend. Kristen Wiig is one of the brightest comedic stars in the industry right now, and having her play a major role in the show [similar to Charlize Theron’s guest appearance in the earlier seasons] will bring in viewership and gain buzz.
Vulture, along with confirming Wiig’s appearance as Lucille Bluth, also mentioned that Seth Rogen recently filmed something for the show as well. While there’s no indication yet of who he will be playing, we’re sure to find out soon as the Netflix release date draws closer.
This recent announcement doesn’t come as much of a surprise as major comedy stars usually remain friends after co-starring together, and Jason Batement [the star of Arrested Development] is reportedly good friends with both Wiig and Rogen.
Netflix will air all the new episodes [14 in total] in May, which sees the entire original cast returning to reprise their roles. The show was originally cut from network television after three seasons in 2006, but is projected to very well in its new model on Netflix.
