Swiss champion skier Lara Gut was recently interviewed about her upcoming season and training during which she revealed that she had again taken on a new coach after her 2014-15 season which has some skiing fans on social media comparing her to Tiger Woods for her ‘tinkering’ fascination.
At the end of the 2014 season she was the number one ranked Super-G female skier and number three overall in the world. In 2015 she fell to the number five in the world in the Super-G discipline and number nine overall, a small slip but one that she was obviously not willing to accept as tolerable as indicated by her decision to create a new coaching situation with her team as she now has Didier Cuche and Patrice Marisod training her and has a new sponsor, Head, who coincidentally also sponsors two of the other top athletes, Lindsey Vonn and Anna Fenninger.
An elite athlete who only one year removed from being number one in the world decides it is time to change coaches and even equipment sponsors is rare and if one were to look at an athlete who made a similar decision the name Tiger Woods would come to the forefront.
The decision to make these professional changes has brought much scrutiny to the attractive champion skier from skiing followers throughout Europe, particularly Switzerland as some fans are wondering if she is starting to feel the pressure to return to being one of the top five female skiers in the world.
She has made changes with her team and sponsors and is becoming more active on social media through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter which has some fans thinking she is going ‘all in’ to enhance her public profile as a professional skier. Lara Gut, an elite skier acting like she has something to prove which is great news for Swiss ski fans and bad news for her competition.
